Terms of sale

Who we are

The Sunday Larder makes small-batch flavoured butter in Lagos, Nigeria. In these terms, "we", "us" and "our" mean The Sunday Larder Limited. "You" means the person placing an order. You can reach us at sundaylarder@gmail.com.

Our products

Every jar is made by hand in small batches. Because our butters are handmade, colour, texture and the look of folded-through ingredients can vary slightly from jar to jar and from the photos on our website. This does not affect quality or taste.

Ingredient and allergen information is shown for each product. Please read it before ordering, and contact us first if you have an allergy or dietary concern.

Ordering

All orders are pre-orders. Every jar is made to order and delivered on Monday, Wednesday or Friday.

When you choose a product on our website, you are taken to our Paystack storefront to complete your order and payment. Your order is confirmed once payment has been successfully completed and you have received a confirmation from Paystack or from us.

We may decline or cancel an order, for example if an item is unavailable, a pricing error has occurred, or we cannot deliver to your address. If we cancel an order you have paid for, we will refund you in full.

Prices and payment

All prices are shown in Nigerian Naira (NGN). Delivery charges depend on your location and are confirmed before payment is completed.

Payments are processed securely by Paystack. We do not see or store your full card details.

Delivery, missed deliveries, cancellations and refunds

See our Delivery and Refund Policy.

Storage and freshness

Our butters contain no added preservatives. Keep them refrigerated at all times and follow our storage guidance. We are not responsible for changes in quality caused by storage that does not follow our guidance once an order has been delivered.

Our responsibility to you

We take care to make and deliver every order properly. Nothing in these terms limits any rights you have under Nigerian law, including the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Act 2018, or our responsibility for products that are damaged, incorrect or not as described.

To the extent the law allows, we are not responsible for losses that were not reasonably foreseeable when you placed your order, or for delays caused by events outside our reasonable control.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. The version on our website when you place your order is the one that applies to that order.

Delivery & refunds

Delivery availability and charges

Every order is made to order. Butters are made fresh the night before your delivery day, or early that morning.

Customers are responsible for confirming their availability to receive an order on the selected delivery date before placing it.

Delivery charges depend on the customer's location and will be confirmed before payment is completed. The total order cost, including delivery, will be communicated before payment.

Customers must provide an accurate delivery address, a working telephone number and any relevant delivery instructions.

Missed deliveries and rescheduling

If a customer will not be available to receive an order, they must contact The Sunday Larder beforehand so that alternative arrangements can be discussed.

If the customer is unavailable at the agreed delivery time and has not informed us beforehand, an additional delivery fee will apply to arrange another delivery attempt.

Customers should therefore confirm their availability before placing an order and notify us as early as possible if their plans change.

Cancellations and refunds

We do not offer change-of-mind cancellations or refunds after an order has been confirmed, subject to applicable law.

This does not exclude any rights or remedies customers may have under applicable law, including in relation to products that are damaged, incorrect, defective or otherwise subject to a valid complaint.

If The Sunday Larder cannot fulfil a confirmed order, we will contact the customer to agree on an appropriate resolution.

For delivery concerns, refund requests or product issues, contact sundaylarder@gmail.com.

Who we are

The Sunday Larder Limited is responsible for the personal information described in this policy. Contact us about anything in it at sundaylarder@gmail.com. We handle personal information in line with the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023.

What we collect

When you order. Orders are placed through our Paystack storefront. To process and deliver your order we receive your name, phone number, email address, delivery address, delivery instructions and order details. Paystack processes your payment; we do not receive or store your full card details.

When you contact us. If you email us or message us on X, we receive your name, contact details and anything you choose to tell us.

When you subscribe to our newsletter. Newsletter sign-ups happen on Substack, which shares your email address with us so we can send you our updates.

When you leave a note. If you leave a note on our Buttered up page, we receive your first name, your note, what it is about and, if you choose to give it, your email address. We only show your first name and note on our website if you tick the box saying we can, and only after we have read it. We never show your email address. You can ask us to take your note down at any time.

When you visit our website. We do not use analytics, advertising cookies or tracking tools. Our website remembers two small settings on your device: whether you have turned the sound on or off in the churn game, and whether you have turned the background music on or off (with where the song was up to, so it carries on as you move between pages). They are stored only in your own browser, and we never receive them. Our website loads its fonts from Google Fonts, which means Google receives your device's IP address when the page loads, as with most websites.

How we use it

We use your information to process, prepare and deliver your order; contact you about your order or delivery; respond to your questions, complaints and refund requests; send you our newsletter, if you have subscribed; show the notes you have given us permission to show, and reply to them if you ask; and keep the records we are required to keep by law, for example for tax and accounting. We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for anything unrelated to these reasons.

Our lawful basis

Contract: to fulfil and deliver the orders you place with us. Consent: for our newsletter, which you can withdraw at any time by unsubscribing, and for showing your note on our website, which you can withdraw by asking us to take it down. Legitimate interests: to answer enquiries and keep our business running properly. Legal obligation: to keep financial and tax records.

Who we share it with

We only share what is needed with Paystack, to take payments and manage orders; third-party delivery services such as inDrive, Bolt or Relay by Chowdeck, which receive your name, phone number and delivery address so their riders can deliver your order; Substack, which runs our newsletter; Netlify, which hosts our website and receives the notes left on it; and Google, which hosts our email and provides our website fonts. Some of these providers may store information outside Nigeria. Where they do, they are well-established services with their own data-protection safeguards.

How long we keep it

We keep order records for as long as we need them for accounting and legal purposes, usually up to six years, in line with Nigerian tax record-keeping requirements. We keep other messages only as long as needed to deal with them. Newsletter details are kept until you unsubscribe. Notes stay on our website until you ask us to take them down.

Your rights

Under the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023, you can ask us to tell you what personal information we hold about you and give you a copy; correct information that is wrong or incomplete; delete your information, where we no longer need to keep it; stop or limit how we use it, or object to a particular use; and withdraw any consent you have given. Email sundaylarder@gmail.com and we will respond as soon as we can, and within the time the law requires. If you are unhappy with how we handle your information, you can also complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC).

Keeping it safe

We take reasonable steps to protect your information, and we only give access to people who need it to fulfil your order.

Children

Our website and products are not aimed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we will update it on this page and change the "Last updated" date above.

Food quality & storage

Storage and consumption

For the best quality, The Sunday Larder recommends consuming butter within two weeks when stored under the specified refrigerated conditions.

For longer storage, butter may be frozen for approximately one to three months, subject to the product's formulation and the storage instructions provided on its packaging.

Keep products properly sealed and follow the storage instructions on the label. Avoid leaving butter exposed to unsuitable temperatures for extended periods. Follow appropriate thawing and handling instructions before use.

Storage guidance may vary depending on the flavour and ingredients. Product-specific instructions should be followed where provided.

Product quality

If you notice an unusual appearance, smell, damaged packaging or another sign that makes you concerned about the safety or quality of your butter, do not consume it. Contact sundaylarder@gmail.com with your order details so we can investigate.

Ingredients and allergens

Customers should review the ingredient and allergen information provided for each product before ordering. Customers with allergies or dietary concerns should contact us before purchasing.

Pantry Passport

Every order comes with a Pantry Passport, a card with nine butter guests on it. Each guest stands for a jar of Sunday Larder butter. Circle a guest for each jar you receive, using a pen, pencil, marker or whatever feels right.

Founding members receive their passport with their guests already marked for the jars they have bought so far.

When all nine guests are circled, your 10th order comes with a free jar from The Sunday Larder, something warm from Gourmet Gathering and invitations to future butter tastings. Seats in the TSL Club are offered by invitation.

Show your completed passport when you place your 10th order. If you lose your passport, email sundaylarder@gmail.com and we'll check your orders and replace it.

Passport rewards have no cash value and can't be exchanged or transferred. We may change or end the Pantry Passport at any time; any change will be shown on this page, and rewards already earned will be honoured.

We share new flavours, product announcements, events and stories from the brand through our Substack publication, The Sunday Larder. You can subscribe on Substack.

Newsletter subscriptions are voluntary and separate from placing an order. You can unsubscribe from marketing emails at any time.
